How do I clean bat feces out of my attic?

Texas bat feces, popularly called Guano, is hazardous to your health. If you have bat feces in your home, you would need to immediately hire a professional to clean it up or you would have to do it yourself but in the safest way possible. San Antonio bats infected with Histoplasmosis, spread the disease through its feces. Dried bat feces are airborne, carrying the histoplasmosis spores with it. When human inhale this, they become immediately infected, displaying flu-like symptoms that can reflect as Tuberculosis, and if left untreated, it would lead to death. Even the fresh droppings carry parasites and pathogens that, if touched, can transfer unto the human body where it would find a home to start its own reproduction.



The following are necessary if you are cleaning San Antonio bat feces out of your attic yourself:

Protective Wear
You would need to be covered from head to toe for this process. The best protective wear would be to purchase a disposable outfit so that you can throw it out after you have completed your cleaning. In addition to a suit, you would need gloves, a dust mask, googles and hat or scarf to tie around your head. Most disposable suits come with a hoodie attached so this can work as well. You would also need to wear disposable shoe coverings for your feet. If any of these items are difficult to obtain, you would need to improvise with what you have, using plastic bags or old pieces of clothing that you can throw out.

Equipment
You can use a vacuum to remove the feces from the attic since sweeping may risk disease carrying pathogens becoming airborne. Several pieces of rags or a mop. Garbage bags to throw out all the material you are using as well as your clothing when you are done. Extra vacuum bags if you vacuum uses bags since you may need to change it at least once. If your vacuum contains only a canister, you would need to empty it into the garbage bag and seal it immediately. (When you have completed your cleaning, you would need to wear gloves, protective clothing and a dust mask to wash out your vacuum cannister with some bleach and water). You would also need a spray bottle and maybe even a scrubbing brush.

Liquids
If you are using a vacuum to pick up the feces, you would also need water, bleach or enzyme to thoroughly clean the area when you are done.
